Rose would like to see the Markhams at the Cameo Dinner at least once a year. She did interview Mr.Garvin 3 or 4 times about Mr. M appearing at the church.I gave him your terms of $115 and $15 for traveling. ( The letter was address to Mr and Mrs. Markham).

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
